This was the first piece that I created after becoming a professional dancer. Named after a small town in northern Nunavut this piece was meant to represent the journey of a young woman leaving home and making a new life of her own. It was presented as part of “Letters Home” a Ballet Montana production under the direction of Sallyann Mulcahy. I used the choreographic process while creating Resolute to really help myself understand how to choreograph in a professional setting and to get a better grasp on different dance and musical styles within one piece.
I restaged Resolute for Ballet Idaho’s Studio Series in March of 2013. This gave me an opportunity to amend and reconfigure some of the choreography from my original production. Any time I have a chance to restage a piece, I take advantage of the experience I have gained since first creating the work.
